PADLET AND OTHER SOURCES

Image
Hi guys! Today we are going to talk about different online resources very useful when teaching like apps or tools for tablets, mobiles or web, lesson plans ready to print or e-books, articles and online publications. For this, we will use another resource very helpful: PADLET. PADLET is a free app to create online public notice-boards. In this case, I created a notice-board about some apps, lesson plans, e-books, articles and publications which I found very interesting. All of them are related to the educational field and the Natural Science subject specifically. However, this app could be used in class as far as students and teachers can collaborate, reflect, share links and pictures, in a secure location. Here is the link to my PADLET where you could find the resources  previously mentioned: https://padlet.com/anabel_ortega_ortiz/naturalsciencesearches I hope you enjoy it, see you soon!

BLOGS

On the last posts, we have talked about Content Management System (CMS). This time we are going to talk briefly about blogs. Blogs are a special type of CMS, which organise the information into categories in chronological order. If I have to choose one of the examples according to the education field, I think the best one is the mathematics one: https://soymatematicas.com/blog/ because it’s very instructive and interesting. I think that it breaks the traditional idea of learning Maths. It’s easy to use and even more; it invites the visitor to click and try the activities or read the information just out of curiosity. However if I could choose a different blog according to the pre-school education field  specifically, I would choose ‘El Pupitre de Pilu’; http://www.elpupitredepilu.com/category/educacion-infantil/ From my point of view, it’s the best blog. It has different categories like primary education, pre-school, pedagogy, public examinations and so on. In the pre...

CMS EXAMPLES

Here it comes another task about CMS: For task 2 in Unit 5, we had to check different sites created with different CMS and choose one. In my case I have chosen a High School site created with Joomla: http://iesleonardoalacant.edu.gva.es/web/ After clicking on the different links, I preferred this one because it’s the most visual and practical in my opinion. I find it very interesting and well organized. On the top part we have a menu with different possibilities and around the main page you can find different blocks depending on different topics like teachers, the centre, families, projects… with all the information related to them. In the middle, we can see a short list of highlighted news. Finally, at the bottom, we have visual links to the most important websites in the education field. In conclusion, this website is easy to use and very intuitive. It doesn’t have too much information on the front page so it doesn’t weigh us down. We can find the information you are...

JOOMLA

Image
Hi guys! This week we are learning about Content Management Systems (CMS) and JOOMLA in particular. Here it comes my review: A Content Management System (CMS) is a very simple way to create corporate web pages where all the sections have the same or very similar design. A CMS is normally based on a database and templates. An example of a CMS is JOOMLA. JOOMLA is an award-free CMS for publishing web content. It is built on a model-view-controller web application framework. From my point of view, JOOMLA is easy to use and configure for both advanced and new users. It is very flexible with lots of possibilities from using a blog to online window systems. Last but not least, it’s free forever and multilingual. However we also can find some cons; although there are many templates, there is little control over the settings options. We can face some frustrating compatibility problems between some of the plugins, in which some of them are paid. Looking for a JOOMLA extension I h...

CLOUD COMPUTING; ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Image
In this post we are going to speak about a current phenomenon which isn't a new invention but it's now on trend; cloud computing. The general term of cloud or cloud computing is an Information Technology (IT) paradigm. It’s a service over the internet that enables users or companies online storage like an information’s warehouse. Here you can store and share files, documents, applications, different data and resources, etc. The main advantages are: The scale and the cost: It’s easy to scale up and down your cloud capacity as and when your business requires with lower maintenance costs because in some servers you should pay a small amount but others are totally free. Encapsulated and change management: Using this service, companies will have all their data in the same space and they will be able to raise or lower the space used. Next generation architectures: Cloud computing is fundamentally altering the expectations. It’s enabling real-time dynamism for shared di...

INTERACTION IN CLASS

Image
Hi everyone! I’m back to tell you about learning and teaching strategies. In this post we are going to list some learning and teaching strategies that, in my opinion, may promote interaction in Natural Science classes in Primary School. Teaching methodology comprises the method and principles used by teachers to foster and achieve the desired learning by students.  This way, I consider the learning process should be global because we live in a global world; student-focussed as the student is the main subject of this process; personalize what means taking into account student’s interests, needs and learning speed; and dynamic (using different kinds of activities and methods). Moreover, interaction is really important as a feedback of the process and because it’s proved its benefits within students. In a Natural Science class concretely, I would use the following strategies to promote interaction: Active learning: students actively create their own k...

WORD CLOUD

Image
I have chosen 10 fundamental words for my students in my discipline (Eary Childhood Education). With these 10 words I have made a word cloud using 'Wordle' in  https://www.wordclouds.com/ It's a very nice app and we could take advantage of this in class, however, I think that it should have more shapes and colours options.
