WHAT'S A BLOG?
Today we are going to talk about blogs. Nowadays all of us have visited a blog at least once. Probably it would have been to read about fashion or cooking but, Could you give a definition?
After have visited some blogs and have been researching in different websites where the notion of blog is explained, my personal reflection is the next:
A blog is a personal journal or diary where people express their thoughts expecting someone is going to read them. The readers can also comment the entries. In this way, we could say that the main objective of a blog is to share information with other people.
The person who writes in a blog is called ‘blogger’ whereas his/ her text entries are called ‘posts’. Posts are typically displayed in chronological order; the most recent post appears at the top of the website.
At the beginning, blogs were usually personal sites covering a single topic of interest. These people tried to reach a thousand readers. However, very soon "multi-author blogs" were created expanding blogs’ main aim and the profile of the bloggers.
Nowadays we can find blogs about a specific subject trying to reach a big audience, business blogs about different companies, brands or items or even educative blogs.
At the educational field, the field which concerns to me, blogs can be used to share information with the educational community promoting the collaboration school-family. Moreover, teachers can use a blog with their students in different ways for example to share information, resources, materials, etc. or in a practical way where the students have to write in the blog fostering the collaborative work, and different skills.
Finally, to have a successful blog we can’t forget the dangers of sharing information in a public blog. We should be aware of our responsibilities as a blogger. These websites are public so everybody could read and comment the information. The blogger has to be a moderator of his/her information and the information in comments. We should keep the blog updated and use correct language for the context of the blog.
Here there are some websites where the concept of a blog is explained and you can find some tips to start blogging:
